| "What's great
about this film is its subtlety. We get to know the main character so
well and, since the time setting is a few years ago and since we were
all confused gay teenagers at one time, we easily relate to him. The film
ends with a whimper rather than a bang, like those crushes of our teenage
years often did. It's a pure, honest, unassuming, poignant and important
short film, one that says volumes without really seeming to try. A remarkable
and heartfelt short film and one that should be seen by others." --Lodger Reviewed at the 2003 Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival www.filethirteen.com |

| ONE FINE
MORNING dir-scr Scott Boswell; with Kevin Mertz, Jonathan Timmerman, Nancy Willoughby, Mary McGloin, Bob Brindley, Tom Llewellyn USA 16mm ***1/2 "This sweet and funny short centres on a teen named Adam (played by the obviously older Mertz) on his first day back at school after the summer break. He has spent the whole holiday obsessing about his friend Matt (Timmerman) and wondering if he got the hint he dropped heavily at the end of the school year. He's frustrated by his mother, annoyed with his friends, and just wanting to know what Matt thinks. Set in the late 80s, the film has a hilarious Cure vibe (Adam is obsessed with Robert Smith and even writes a very Cure-like love song, which we hear over and over!). It's very corny and perhaps a little too silly in its use of special effects to tell us what Adam is thinking, but it's such a cute examination of a lovestruck teen that we don't really mind." 24.Mar.03 --Rich Cline Reviewed at 17th London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival www.shadowsonthewall.co.uk |

"One
Fine Morning is that rare short that can recall with crystalline clarity
a day in time (the first day of school, September 1988) when Adam (Kevin
Mertz), a Cure-addicted, lovesick teen, finds out whether a song he
wrote for lunchmate Matt (Jonathan Timmerman) has struck its intended
cord."
